The artwork featured throughout the website is created by the project's founder/director, Stephanie Flom. The leafy images that capture the spirit of the natural world are paper cutouts that have been scanned into the computer. Each is created through a mysterious guided process that Flom describes as following the scissors.

The Paper Garden takes its name from Henri Matisse's reference to the colorful cut paper works that lined his hotel room/studio in France. A gardener for most of his life, when confined indoors due to illness, he is said to have greeted a visitor by saying, "Welcome to my paper garden." Matisse's creative process was also mysterious. He once wrote, " I am guided like a medium, pure and simple." Flom has been creating site-specific installations and distinct compositions of this work since 2001.

The Mayfly Series celebrates the hopeful return of the mayfly, a pollution-sensitive water insect that recently emerged from Pittsburgh’s rivers for the first time in 105 years signaling a healthier environment. The fairy-like mayfly cutouts capture the joy of this phenomenon.

The Seedling Series captures the thrilling moment when new growth pushes through the earth at winter's end. The promise of spring and Persephone's return is fulfilled. The sleeping seeds awaken. They open. They unfurl. Seedling is a metaphor for the unfolding potential in us all.
