The Persephone Project connects the public to art and to the environment by promoting gardening as a contemporary art medium and by recognizing gardeners as artists. The multi-faceted project includes five program areas. Roll your mouse over the diagram below for a brief explanation of each.

Elevating gardening from a hobby to an art changes the awareness and thus the experience of each garden artist. The intention to engage creatively with plant materials distinguishes the garden artist. The role of nature in the arts has traditionally been that of subject matter as well as inspiration. Inspired by the Greek Myth of Persephone, the project insists upon an active relationship; the environment is collaborator with the artist.
